Queen’s Landing Construction Update!

Thanks to this relatively mild winter the work onsite at Queen’s Landing has been proceeding quite well! If you’ve driven by the site lately, you’ve no doubt seen the excavation activity and the heavy earthmovers busy at work through the last few months!

Site servicing is advancing at a rapid pace. As you may remember from our post back in the fall, the site servicing team had cleared the site and started installing the sewers and watermains and prepared the site for road work. An now the sewer installation is expected to be complete within the next few weeks. Once the underground lines have been laid and the topsoil graded over, the team will start on the road construction process, which we expect will be finished by spring.

Once site servicing is complete, Minto’s construction team can come in and start building your homes! We can’t wait to see more of the Queen’s Landing community take shape in the coming months. Stay tuned for more construction updates!

Our First Update on the Queen’s Landing Site!

If you’ve driven by the Queen’s Landing site lately, you will have seen the flurry of activity as the land is being prepped for construction!

Minto Queen's Landing Site Nov 2015

The site has now been cleared and site servicing has started. This is needed to install the under-workings of the community so that homes can be built on top and serviced by the township. Currently the Land Development team is over-seeing the installation of the sewers and watermain, and they are prepping the site for road work.

The Minto Land Development team plays an important role in the development of a community. They are the ones who work on getting approvals in place from municipalities in order to build, as well as installing site servicing, landscaping, and designing the community. Once site servicing is complete, the Construction team will come in and start building. Click here to learn more about our Land Development team at Minto.

After home construction at Queen’s Landing is complete, the Land Development team will be back on-site finishing up the Queen’s Landing neighbourhood with roads, ashphalt, sidewalks, and parks. They’re the ones who oversee the very beginning and very end of a project!

Take a look at these photos to see how site-servicing is coming along:

Fall hiking trails in East Gwillimbury

East Gwillimbury, home to Queen’s Landing, is a beautiful town north of Newmarket that holds a lot of heritage and historical roots. The town is also home to lush trails and green spaces, perfect for you and your family to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle. And as the trees continue to change in the fall season, some of these trails are a perfect place to enjoy the East Gwillimbury area this fall. Here are some of our favourite trails:

Rogers Reservoir Trail

 rogers resevoir fall

The Rogers Resevoir trail follows the route of the abandoned “Ghost Canal System” from the early 1900s. It is part of the Nokiidaa Trail System that links East Gwillimbury, Newmarket and Aurora. While hiking on this trail you will notice various historical sites, including the historic Metropolitan Radial Line. You will also come across a swing bridge that was once part of the canal system. The Rogers Reservoir Trail is perfect for walking, jogging or biking due to its flat surface. The wildlife is also very lush here; you may encounter geese, ducks, heron, and other bird species. You can also enjoy the beautiful Holland River on this trail.

Holland River Trail

 simcoe fall

This wide trail is part of the Rogers Reservoir Conservation area. It starts west of the 2nd Concession on the south side of the Holland River. Mixed shrubs and trees run on both sides of the river, making this trail very scenic and perfect for photos. If you’re lucky, you may happen to see a beaver near the river or a rare bobolink. With the diversity of mixed bush, meadow, wetlands and the river, this trail is an ever-changing habitat to enjoy during fall.

Simcoe Trail

Located between Mount Albert Road and Queensville Sideroad, the Simcoe Trail connects residents around the area. This trail is 31.1 miles located near East Gwillimbury and offers beautiful scenic views, great for hiking, biking or walking with friends and family. The Holland Landing Community Centre and Library is found along this trail. Bring your friends to enjoy a fun game of tennis or basketball here. Some sections of this trail may be rocky, wet, narrow, or covered by roots so be careful when exploring!

Anchor Park Trail

This 1km wooded loop trail is small but unique. Holland Landing Park is accessible at Anchor Park Trail and forms a part of the larger Simcoe Trail network. The Anchor Park Trail offers several amenities for residents, including a picnic shelter, a playground and washrooms. You can also enjoy a sports field or have fun art the adventure bike park. The east side of the trail has a mix of woodland and connects to the Holland Landing Conservation area, a great spot for bird watching.

The Architecture of Queen’s Landing

Have you wondered how we come up with the designs of our homes? It’s typically a long, meticulous process involving several moving parts. The architectural designs for Queen’s Landing are no different; they were developed through a careful process of brainstorming between our architectural consultants at RN Design and our product development team here at Minto. With the help of this hard-working team, we were able to develop a unique, elegant, and timeless community design.

It started as a brainstorming session where the team sat down to deliberate some important questions: What do our Queen’s Landing customers what and need? What do we want this community to look like? And what will make Minto stand apart from all the other new developments that are coming to the area?

The team centred in on the idea of historical styles of architecture. They also wanted to focus on interesting streetscapes and creating a community that felt timeless. “We didn’t want to create another cookie cutter builder subdivision,” explained RN’s designer Steve Hukari.  “We wanted to keep things fresh and innovative.”

The team wanted to develop homes that were inviting from the inside and out. As Steve told us, “We have always felt that more windows add more life to a house. From the outside, the house feels inviting, from the inside you feel more like you are outside which makes spaces feel bigger and brighter.” So the team decided that more, bigger windows, was the way to go. They also wanted to add character to the homes with details like chimneys, board and batten shutters, pilasters, tapered columns, steeper roof pitches, and different window grill patterns to add depth to the designs.

There were initially three different styles of architecture selected for Queen’s Landing: Canadiana, Craftsman and Georgian. To add a bit more “zing” to the mix, French Country and Tudor period architectural styles were added. In total that’s five great styles of architecture for the homes at Queen’s Landing. The styles are mixed within each model to create a wide selection of homes, while at the same time not having the same styles in every floorplan. This ensures that a greater variety of elevations will appear in the neighborhood, keeping it away from that “cookie-cutter” subdivision look.

After all the homes were designed, the team also carefully chose the material and color selections for the exteriors. Stone suppliers, brick manufacturers, siding textures and color palettes were all considered at length. “We really wanted a larger variety of color palettes as well as different materials to add ‘textures’ to the streetscape,” Steve explained. “If every house is the same colour brick and same shingle color it can get quite monotonous.” Because of this, Queen’s Landing’s homes have a larger than normal number of exterior color packages. This  gives Queen’s Landing the character and variety that we strive for in the community!
