Nicolas Un-Caged at Minto Westside

As summer comes to an end and we make way for autumn, we couldn’t resist squeezing in one more opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in #WestsideTO.

On September 17th, under the city lights of the Westside neighbourhood, guests walked and biked-in to enjoy an outdoor movie at the Nicolas Un-Caged event.

Nicholas Un-Caged at Minto Westside

First up, was a discussion panel  featuring Lindsay Gibb, author of upcoming book “National Treasure – Nicolas Cage”, Broken Pencil Magazine Editor Alison Lang, and comedians Andrew Barr and Bobby Knauff.  The panel comically discussed the best and worst of Nic Cage movies, style, acting chops and more. In the end the panel was split 50/50 as to whether or not we should applaud or roast the actor’s career.

As the sun went down, the screening of the 1983 romantic comedy Valley Girl began, and the audience saw a little too much of Cage’s 80’s style chest hair. The packed audience dug into unlimited popcorn and cotton candy and even channelled their inner-Cage with their own star masks. Everyone could agree it was a “totally tubular” night in #WestsideTO.

Things To Do in the City Before Summer Ends

The days might be getting shorter and the weather a bit cooler, but there are still a few weeks left of summer! With Labour Day this weekend, there’s a lot to do before you kiss your summer goodbye. Here are our top suggestions for things to do before the summer officially ends.

Eat your heart out at the CNE

With bacon wrapped grilled cheese and poutine balls this year, as well as classics like funnel cakes and Tiny Toms doughnuts, there are enough greasy gourmet treats to keep you busy at the CNE. If the food is too much for you there are always the rides and games for you to try your luck on! The CNE runs from August 21st to September 7th in Toronto.

Jump on the Jay’s Bandwagon

Since the Jays are one of the favourites to win the World Series this year, now’s a better time than ever to jump on the bandwagon. The regular season goes until the end of September, but tickets are already sold out. That doesn’t mean you can’t catch a game on TV at home or at a sports bar and become a baseball pro just in time for the playoffs.

Buy some art outdoors at the Queen West Art Crawl

queen west art crawlIf you love art and outdoor markets, then the Queen West Art Crawl is definitely for you. The three day long festival from September 11th -13th is centred in Trinity Bellwoods and spills out along Queen Street. Wander along the waterfront

The Best Moments from the #WestsideTO Block Party

There’s nothing like a summer evening enjoying the best of the Westside neighbourhood, and that’s exactly what we did last week at the Minto Westside Block Party!

Our Block Party was the kick off to the new Westside Market that we’ll be hosting on site every day until the fall with our friends at Scadding Court Community Centre. We were joined by some amazing local vendors, the best food in the city and some musical talent to jump start this new initiative and welcome our neighbours to explore what the area has to offer.
