A Golden Groundbreaking!

We’re officially breaking ground at Minto Yorkville Park!

Minto employees, our partners, MYP consultants and our trades celebrated this momentous milestone last Friday, June 10th, with lunch served by the Egg Man foodtruck and a few words of wisdom from our fearless leader, David Stewart, President of Minto Communities. The entire team cheered as Dave sunk a shovel into the dirt, officially breaking ground at our site at the northeast corner of Cumberland and Bellair Streets in Yorkville. It was a beautiful sunny day and a wonderful time to be out in Yorkville commemorating this important event!

Earlier in the week our MYP future residents joined us at Sassafraz to celebrate the start of construction and for a chance to meet their new neighbours. Next door to the site of their soon-to-be home, Sassafraz laid out quite the spread of delicious eats and delectable treats. Purchasers mixed and mingled and got to know members of the Minto Construction, MasterCare, Customer Experience, Sales, Development and Marketing teams. Agnieszka Wloch, VP of Development, and Troy Dosman, VP of Construction, welcomed guests and got everyone excited about the construction of the most luxurious new tower in the heart of Yorkville.

Guests had their photos taken with fun props and hard hats and enjoyed spectacular entertainment from the 5-piece Steve Hunter Band and slight-of-hand magician Wij.

It was a fantastic evening and we were thrilled to get to know our future residents a little better. Thanks to all who attended.

Nicolas Un-Caged at Minto Westside

As summer comes to an end and we make way for autumn, we couldn’t resist squeezing in one more opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in #WestsideTO.

On September 17th, under the city lights of the Westside neighbourhood, guests walked and biked-in to enjoy an outdoor movie at the Nicolas Un-Caged event.

Nicholas Un-Caged at Minto Westside

First up, was a discussion panel  featuring Lindsay Gibb, author of upcoming book “National Treasure – Nicolas Cage”, Broken Pencil Magazine Editor Alison Lang, and comedians Andrew Barr and Bobby Knauff.  The panel comically discussed the best and worst of Nic Cage movies, style, acting chops and more. In the end the panel was split 50/50 as to whether or not we should applaud or roast the actor’s career.

As the sun went down, the screening of the 1983 romantic comedy Valley Girl began, and the audience saw a little too much of Cage’s 80’s style chest hair. The packed audience dug into unlimited popcorn and cotton candy and even channelled their inner-Cage with their own star masks. Everyone could agree it was a “totally tubular” night in #WestsideTO.

The summer may be over but there is no shortage of things to do in the vibrant Westside neighbourhood. Come down for a stroll and enjoy some of the best shopping and dining in the city.

While you’re in the area, visit us inside the Presentation Centre at 25 Bathurst Street and learn how you can call the Westside neighbourhood home.

All About the Village of Yorkville Park

Minto Yorkville Park, at the corner of Bellair and Cumberland in Yorkville, will overlook the Village of Yorkville Park, a unique and peaceful area in Yorkville. The park is designed to represent the diversity and beauty of natural Canadian landscapes.

DSC_0419 copy

Since it’s opening, the Village of Yorkville Park has won many awards such as the American Society of Landscape Architects award, the City of Toronto Urban Design Award of Excellence and the International Downtown’s Association Award of Merit.

Before the park was built, there were debates over how best to use the land. In the 1950s, the government decided to demolish a row of beautiful Victorian-styled homes to make way for the new subway line. However, residents wanted a park to be built over the subway. Instead a parking lot was constructed for commuters. Residents continued to be persistent, and in 1991 the City of Toronto Department of Parks and Recreation announced an international design competition. The winners were Oleson Worland Architects, in association with Martha Schwartz, Ken Smith and David Meyer Landscape Architects, who created a magnificent design of what the park is today.

DSC_0424 copy

The 11 landscapes of the park represent different Canadian environments, ranging from the upland forests found in the North, the river marshes found in the coastal areas, the prairies, orchards and rock outcroppings of the Canadian Shield. The most unique part about this park is the 650 tonne granite rock that sits right outside of Bay Station. The rock was taken from Canada’s glacial shield piece by piece and reassembled in the park. The rock is over 1 billion years old.

The park is a great place to relax, soak up sun and people watch. You’ll find benches around the park surrounded by diverse plant life. There’s also a wooden boardwalk around the marshy terrain, and a waterfall known as The Rain Curtain adds an artistic touch to the park.

Surrounded by luxurious real estate, high end shopping and fine dining, the Village of Yorkville Park is a natural and functional part of the neighbourhood, truly showcasing what great innovation and design can offer.

Minto Yorkville Park will be one of the few residential buildings in the area that looks over the Village of Yorkville Park. Do you want views of this tranquil park from your balcony? We still have luxurious suites available at Minto Yorkville Park! Walk through the park on your way to visit us at our new sales centre at 101 Yorkville Ave, and also be sure to register today!

The Last Minto 30Roe Update of 2014!

We have had such a great year at Minto30Roe! Big things happened at our Yonge and Eglinton high-rise condo project during 2014 and for our final update of the year we wanted to touch base with Alexander D’Orazio, project coordinator, to ask him some questions about construction on site.

DSCF0111

Minto: How is Minto30Roe progressing? What is the team working on now?

Alexander: Minto30Roe is progressing well. The team will continue to pour the floors of the podium (floors 2 to 7) and transition into the tower portion of the building this winter. The window installation for the podium will start in the early new year as well, which is critical to commence all finishing work for the suites.

M: What’s different about working on Minto30Roe than on other Minto projects?

A: All projects are unique and different in their own way, and they each presents different challenges to the construction team. Due to Minto30Roe’s location and downtown-like atmosphere, the team must plan thoroughly so all deliveries and work can be conducted efficiently and with very little disturbance to our neighbours.

DSCF0103

M: What do you like best about the Minto30Roe project?

A: Besides the fantastic location at Yonge & Eglinton, I really love the architecture of the building and its unique shape that will add to its curb appeal. The building includes fancy architectural features, awesome outdoor amenity areas, and cool cladding of composite metal panels and window walls.

DSCF0101

M: Now that winter’s upon us, do you have any tricks for dealing with the cold weather while on site?

A: The winter is always tricky during construction. The team must be prepared by providing heat and tarps throughout the building so that concrete will cure properly and the building will not be impacted by the cold weather. As for keeping yourself warm, there are some interesting gadgets out there. Some of the guys on site wear heated jackets that are powered by a rechargeable battery pack – they’re pretty cool and definitely help keep you warm. Everyone has their own winter weather-wear tricks to get through the really cold days.

We love catching up with the Minto30Roe team and learning about how the building is progressing. Are you interested in learning more about Minto30Roe? We still have some amazing 2 bedrooms suites available. Our Sales Centre is closing soon but for a limited time you can come check out our model suite at 2345 Yonge Street or give us a call at 416.915.3812.
