TIFF in Yorkville: Where to Spot the Stars

TIFF has kicked off in Toronto, marking the 40th anniversary of festival. We’re excited to spot the stars around the city, especially stars like Johnny Depp, Natalie Portman, Matt Damon, Ryan Reynolds, Naomi Watts, Sandra Bullock who are all supposed to be attending the Festival. With so many celebrities in the city for the next week, here are some spots you can stake out to hopefully catch a glimpse of the celebs in Toronto’s most trendiest and luxurious neighbourhood, Yorkville.

Hotels

The Four Seasons Hotel in Yorkville

The Four Seasons and the Hazelton, both on Yorkville Avenue, will be filled with some of the top names in the business. If you can grab a spot at the bar at these hotels, you might be able to catch a glimpse of a star grabbing a drink.  Try DBar at the Four Seasons or the Hazelton’s One Restaurant. Even if you don’t see a celebrity, you’ll feel like one sitting in these swanky bars!

Restaurants/Bars

Kasa Moto in Yorkville

There’s no doubt that many of the stars will be dining at some of the top restaurants in the neighbourhood. The new and improved CafeBoulud inside the Four Seasons Hotel will attract many stars that are staying there or ones that are just visiting. The renovated restaurant brings that French café feel to life.

Kasa Moto may be the new kid on the block, but come this weekend it will definitely be the hotspot during TIFF 2015. If you really want to bump into someone famous then this is the place to be. The massive rooftop patio will be a perfect spot to catch celebs sipping on cocktails and having a good time. With offerings such as sushi, seafood and grilled meats and veggies, Kasa Moto will be packed, so get there early!

Located in the InterContinental Hotel, Proof the Vodka Bar & SkyLounge Patio will be shaking up some amazing cocktails for A-list stars during TIFF. You will most likely be able to spot celebrities lounging and sipping on drink at the SkyLounge Patio. The stylish setting and comfortable seating is a perfect spot for celebs to unwind from all the chaos.

Shopping

Yorkville is known to be the number one luxurious shopping area in the city and celebrities love to stop by some of the high-end stores here. Some stores to look out for celebs are Chanel, Hermes, Intermix and of course, Holt Renfrew.

Holt Renfrew is a frequent stop for celebs visiting the city. The store carries some of the most high-end brands in fashion, accessories, makeup, housewares and even food. In years past, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johannsen and Reese Witherspoon have been spotted leaving the store during TIFF.

TIFF officially kicked off on Thursday, and will run until Sunday Sept. 20. If you’re in the neighbourhood spotting stars, come by and visit the Minto Yorkville Park Sales Centre at 101 Yorkville Ave. And this Saturday you can celebrate with us at our Bellini Bar in our Minto Yorkville Park Sales Centre from 1-4pm!

Things To Do in the City Before Summer Ends

The days might be getting shorter and the weather a bit cooler, but there are still a few weeks left of summer! With Labour Day this weekend, there’s a lot to do before you kiss your summer goodbye. Here are our top suggestions for things to do before the summer officially ends.

Eat your heart out at the CNE

colossal_onion.jpg.size.xxlarge.promo

With bacon wrapped grilled cheese and poutine balls this year, as well as classics like funnel cakes and Tiny Toms doughnuts, there are enough greasy gourmet treats to keep you busy at the CNE. If the food is too much for you there are always the rides and games for you to try your luck on! The CNE runs from August 21st to September 7th in Toronto.

Jump on the Jay’s Bandwagon

jays

Since the Jays are one of the favourites to win the World Series this year, now’s a better time than ever to jump on the bandwagon. The regular season goes until the end of September, but tickets are already sold out. That doesn’t mean you can’t catch a game on TV at home or at a sports bar and become a baseball pro just in time for the playoffs.

Buy some art outdoors at the Queen West Art Crawl

queen west art crawlIf you love art and outdoor markets, then the Queen West Art Crawl is definitely for you. The three day long festival from September 11th -13th is centred in Trinity Bellwoods and spills out along Queen Street. Check out local artists, as well as a New Music Stage, Kids Zone, multiple food vendors and a Craft Beer Garden.  Plus come by and visit us at our Minto Westside Tent!

Wander along the waterfront

Toronto---PROWalk, run, bike or roller blade along Toronto’s waterfront and take in spectacular lake views while the weather is still warm. From Etobicoke to Scarborough you can stroll across the waterfront trails. Check out trail maps here.

Catch a movie under the stars at the Minto Westside TIFF Outdoor Movie

The Best Moments from the #WestsideTO Block Party

There’s nothing like a summer evening enjoying the best of the Westside neighbourhood, and that’s exactly what we did last week at the Minto Westside Block Party!

Our Block Party was the kick off to the new Westside Market that we’ll be hosting on site every day until the fall with our friends at Scadding Court Community Centre. We were joined by some amazing local vendors, the best food in the city and some musical talent to jump start this new initiative and welcome our neighbours to explore what the area has to offer.

The array of cuisines illustrated just how vibrant the #WestsideTO neighbourhood is. We sampled octopus balls from Mr. Gushi Japanese Streetfood, fresh burrata from CheeseWerks, Dishum Dishum Indian Street Food’s delicious dishes, hot and fresh Choco Churros and much more.

We also had special appearances from Team Canada Pan Am Games athletes Sasha Gollish and Mandy Bujold, who posed for photos with fans.

“We wanted to start building the community now and using the space that we have before we start construction,” says Diane Wallace, Director of Marketing, Minto. “It was a wonderful evening packed with food, shops and entertainment all to celebrate the neighbourhood and introduce people to the Westside Market. We’re so happy that so many vendors and the Farmer’s Market will continue to be on-site energizing the area daily.”

If you missed us last week, stop by and check out the mix of local vendors on site who will have their unique selection of handmade goods, art and more such as The Drift Collective, The Nrth, Cedar Basket Gift Shop, Elle Mair Co and Rob Croxford. It’s a great way to discover some new Toronto talent and shop local!

Construction is Hot at Minto30Roe!

This summer has been hot, just like construction at Minto30Roe! The tower is taking off, and is now rising above the Yonge and Eglinton neighbourhood. You’ve probably seen it if you’ve been by the area – it looks exactly like our rendering! Life mimicking art, isn’t it beautiful!

Minto 30Roe Construction

The construction team is now pouring concrete for the 25th floor. The pours are coming along quickly thanks to the fly forms being used to help pour concrete on each floor. The windows have been installed up to the 16th floor, making the exterior of the building look almost finished up to these floors!

Minto 30Roe Construction

Inside the building, lots of work is going on to creating the interiors of your future home at Minto30Roe. The corridors of each floor have been framed up to the 10th floor. The suites are also coming along quickly and have been framed up to the 6th floor, making the suites come to life with their individual rooms. The drywalling team is following up framing, now drywalling up to the 3rd floor suites.
