Summer in Toronto has become synonymous with food festivals. There’s the popular Summerlicious, Taste of the Danforth and the Festival of Beer, just to name a few. With summer coming to an end, food-lovers across the city may be worrying about how they’ll get their fix during the year.
Foodies, there’s no need to worry – there are plenty of food festivals coming your way in September.
1. Hot & Spicy Food Festival (August 30 – September 2)
The Hot & Spicy Food Festival hits Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre this upcoming weekend and will definitely excite your taste buds. There’s going to be plenty of spicy food of course, but there’s also the much-anticipated and always-popular Iron Chef competition. We’re most excited for the Taco Takedown (returning for it’s second year) and the Donut Holed-Up competitions. The best part about these competitions, is that select members of the audience will get to taste and choose the winners!
2. Vegetarian Food Festival (September 6 – September 8)
The 29th Annual Vegetarian Food Festival is known to be the largest food festival of its kind in all of North America. It’s a free event and starts at 4 p.m. on the Friday and is also held at the Harbourfront Centre. There’s plenty of live-cooking demonstrations and seminars from leading vegetarian experts. We’re excited to check out the 130+ vendors, and local Toronto restaurants and bakeries. There’s plenty of organic and vegan options to choose from as well.
3. Toronto Garlic Festival (September 22)
Garlic-lovers unite! The Toronto Garlic Festival will be held on Sunday, September 22nd at Evergreen Brick Works, in Toronto. Cooking with garlic is a staple in many of our homes, it’s a refreshing addition to a variety of dishes. There will be garlic farmers selling only the best Ontario garlic, several chefs serving up their best garlic dishes and the best of garlic chocolate! The new treat this year is the ‘Black Garlic Infused Truffle Kissed with Pancetta’.
4. Ribfest (August 30 – September 2)
This just may very well be the event to end the summer! Canada’s Largest Ribfest is coming back to Spencer Smith Park in Burlington. The National Post has dubbest the festival, the “Superbowl of Ribfests” and we believe it – with four days of family-friendly fun and an endless supply of ribs! There’s musical guests, activities for the kids and the competition for the much-coveted Best Ribs title with over 18 contestants from all across North America.
